Our Curriculum

Tarek ibn Ziyad Academy offers every student  a comprehensive and balanced education. We provide core courses in English, Math, Science and Social Studies, as well as courses in Technology, Art, Physical Education and Arabic Language. Our learning program and instructional methods differs significantly from those found in typical public schools, in that our teachers regularly monitors students and analyze the results of standardized tests in order to develop an indepth and comprehensive picture of students' strengths and weaknesses. Because we know what individual students need, we can identify children who require further assistance or more challenge, and design teaching approaches that speak to each child's challenges and potential.

Saxon Math and Scott Foresman Reading, Social Studies and Science are the core curricula.

Saxon Math takes a concrete approach to mathematics in computation as wll as problem solving, using both traditional and modern methods of instruction.

Scott Foresman Reading, Social Studies and Science provides comprehensive printed materials and the activities lend themselves to interdisciplinary study; the richness and breadth of these materials also give teachers the opportunity to engage students at every level of ability and interest-from students who are struggling to build their skills in literacy and problem solving to students who are eager for new challenges and increasing independence.

Our Values

Tarek Ibn Ziyad Academy believes that each human being is a significant creature entrusted with the weighty role of steward of Earth. Thus, human beings are responsible for expressing the innate human values of brotherhood, equality, justice, compassion and peace among others in ways that build up the human community. We seek to integrate our students into the fabric of American life in a manner consistent with these values. The founders aim to produce stewards of the planet Earth--not just the next generation of consumers and marketers.

Our Mission

The mission of the Tarek Ibn Ziyad Academy is to contribute to building a diverse, virtuous and moral America by helping children to understand their stewardship role in the world, embedding in them a sense of care, responsibility, love, tolerance and cooperation. Strengthened by these virtues, our students will be prepared to participate actively in civic life and take leadership roles in their communities. In addition, the Academy aims to help students integrate into American society, while retaining their identity.

As an inspiration to our students, we have named our school after Tarek Ibn Ziyad, the Ummayad administrator of medieval Spain. Thirteen hundred years ago, serving in the multifaceted roles of activist, leader, explorer, teacher, administrator and peacemaker, he inspired his fellow citizens to the same striving for human greatness that we hope to instill in our students today.

Tarek Ibn Ziyad Academy serves students and employs staff without regard to their nationality, race, religion, gender or disability status.
